TECHNICAL EXCURSIONS

A visit to the construction site of the new North-South Metro line in Amsterdam
and a visit to the Zuidas (South Axis) project in Amsterdam. Participants will see the
construction of stations situated deep underground (to a max. depth of 28 metres
below ground level) and the junction at the historical Central Station. The projects in
the Zuidas district are technical masterpieces that command great respect.
The excursion will start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 6:00 p.m. Lunch and refreshments
will be provided.

A visit to IJburg, an entirely new residential district of Amsterdam that is
located and being built on the IJsselmeer lake. Artificial islands have been built
in the lake for that purpose. The residential district is linked directly to the centre of
Amsterdam via a specially constructed connecting tunnel. An explanation will be
provided about urban development and design and implementation. The excursion will
start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 6: 00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

A visit to the reconstruction project at Rotterdam Central Station, including the
renovation of the underground Metro station. Construction work has been carried
out on the underground link between the metro station and the northern outskirts of
Rotterdam and beyond for many years already. The station itself is also being tackled.
The work that is being performed is a technically complicated task that is also
confined to a small area. An explanation will be provided en route about the work
being carried out on the A4 motorway near Burgerveen. The excursion will start
at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 6:00 p.m.

The railway line will be extended from Lelystad to Zwolle through the
polders of the IJsselmeer, land that has been reclaimed from the sea. The route is called
the Hanze Line. The Drontermeer tunnel is currently under construction there. This is a
sunken tunnel, a Dutch speciality. En route, the group will visit the former island of
Schokland, an UNESCO world heritage site, and the largest inflatable weir in the world
situated in Ens. The excursion will start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 6:00 p.m.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
